Chapter 10

Ruth

I managed a smile before I turned and headed back to the campsite, where I put on clean clothes and checked my phone. There were still no messages, but it was just habit.

Shortly after, Denver came back, fully dressed. He moved towards the pieces of wood and lit a fire and did a breakfast of sausages. We ate, chatted a little and explored the sites until it got later in the day when Denver decided it would probably be a good idea to head back to the campsite to pack up and head home.

We packed up our things and were about to head back down to the truck when Denver grabbed my hand, stopping me from going any further.

I glanced at his hand on mine and then at him, wondering what it was, but also feeling my body grow heated by his touch.

“I want to show you something before we leave,” he said.

I nodded. “Okay.”

He led the way; we went over a small rising before we came out on the top of a cliff. My eyes widened instantly when I saw the view ahead. It was of the city with a dashing sunset behind, casting a warm hue on all the buildings below. The sky was a mixture of bright orange, blue and hints of purple.

“Wow,” I said, my voice low as I stared at the beautiful view.

“Beautiful, isn’t it?”

“Perfect,” I said, still unable to take my eyes off it.

“Hmm.”

I took in an eyeful before we finally decided to leave. Denver led the way as always, and I smiled as I reflected on the experience. Though short, I hadn’t regretted a single thing. I certainly didn’t regret losing my virginity to the man who’d made me feel fulfilled in more ways than one. I bet Ashley couldn’t believe it even when I told her, and I couldn’t wait. It was risky, but I trusted Ashley, and I wanted someone to brag about it to. If I could, I would have let the whole world know that Denver and I spent the night together, and he exceeded all my expectations. Every time I thought about him and what we had done, I got that warm, fuzzy feeling in my stomach that made me just want to curl up into a ball and giggle in contentedness.

I sighed when we arrived at the van. The walk didn’t seem as long and tedious as the first time, and I didn’t even break much of a sweat.

“This is it,” Denver said as he pulled the door open, propped on the A.C. and then went around the back to get our things inside.

When we were both in the front seat, I turned to him. “I enjoyed the trip.”

“Yeah, me too.”

I turned to the window, blushing. Denver started the car, and we got some food on the way before we drove home. It was almost the same thing once we got back, except it was a house this time and not a tent. But the surroundings were similar to where we camped.
